Learn Jazz
Jazz Piano Group Class
Each week, the group focuses on a tune where we dive into a combination of voicings, melodic delivery, improvisation, jazz language, harmony and everything in between.
Here are some things you can expect to learn:
Foundational: Classic jazz piano voicings (shells, rootless); Jazz harmony (‘7’ chords); Scales (pentatonic, blues, mixolydian); Application of scales and different techniques to improvisation; Playing by ear; Internalising swing rhythm
Foundational+: Bebop melodies; Two-handed voicings (block chords, drop 2), More jazz harmony; Other important scales; Walking bass; Solo piano; Other grooves
Each class is capped at 3/4 students. Observers are welcome.
Recommended experience: (i) Grade 4/5 piano or equivalent (ii) Able to play major scales of 5 different keys
Ongoing classes:
1) Foundational: Saturday 945-11am
2) Foundational+: Saturday 11-1215pm
3) Foundational+: Sunday 10-1115am
4) Foundational: Monday 730-845pm
Fee: $650/cycle of 10 sessions; Drop-in: $75/session; Observers: $45/session
Class location: Outram, near SGH.

Regular lessons: $110/h (package of four classes)

Jazz dance
Amanda is a senior teacher with Jazz Inc and teaches lindy hop, authentic solo jazz and charleston classes.
Group Workshops
Amanda also conducts workshops for schools and organisations for jazz appreciation and improvisation.
